There are two ways to use the INDEX function:

1. If you want to return the value of a specified cell or cell array, please refer to the array form;

1. Array form

Returns the value of an element in a table or array, selected by row number and column number index. When the first parameter of the function INDEX is an array constant, the array form is used.

Grammar

INDEX(array, row_num, [column_num])

The array form of the INDEX function has the following parameters:

￭Array: required, cell range or array constant.

If the array contains only one row or column, the corresponding row_num or column_num parameter is optional.

If the array has multiple rows and columns, and only row_num or column_num is used, INDEX returns an array of the entire row or column in the array.

￭row_num: required, select a row in the array, and the function returns a value from the row. If row_num is omitted, column_num is required.

￭column_num: Optional, select a column in the array, and the function returns a value from this column. If column_num is omitted, row_num is required.

Description

￭If the row_num and column_num parameters are used at the same time, INDEX will return the value in the cell at the intersection of row_num and column_num.

￭row_num and column_num must refer to a cell in the array; otherwise, INDEX will return a #REF! error.

￭If row_num or column_num is set to 0 (zero), INDEX returns an array of values for the entire column or row. To use values returned as an array, enter the INDEX function as an array formula.
