Xinhua News Agency Client, Chengdu, January 28 (Reporter Zhang Chaoqun) In the middle of winter, in Jiuzhaigou, a world natural heritage site, the white snow covers her in silver, and the light blue ice waterfall also adds a bit of tranquility. The sun is shining brightly in winter, and the blue mountain lakes and white snow on the Western Sichuan Plateau complement each other, making Jiuzhaigou, known as the "fairy tale world", even more charming.

Blue ice is a unique sight in Jiuzhaigou in winter. As for the cause of blue ice, Xiao Weiyang, a senior engineer at the Scientific Research Office of the Jiuzhaigou Valley Management Bureau, said that the ice in Jiuzhaigou Valley is rich in carbonate particles and tiny bubbles. Under the sun's irradiation, most of the long-wavelength light such as red, orange, and yellow is absorbed. Blue light with shorter wavelengths is easily scattered and appears blue.
"Clean air and water are the basic conditions for the formation of blue ice. As the temperature continues to decrease, the thicker the ice layer, the more obvious the blue ice will be." Xiao Weiyang said.
"Ice waterfalls can best display the ice and snow style of Jiuzhaigou. The blue ice and warm sunshine interpret the ice and snow fairy tale of Jiuzhaigou." Yang Fuying, deputy director of the Tourism Marketing Department of Jiuzhaigou Administration Bureau, told reporters that the Chinese Spring Festival will be held from January 21 to January 27. During the holidays, Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area received a total of 62,761 tourists, including three days when the number of tourists exceeded 10,000. This Spring Festival holiday has become the largest number of tourists during the Spring Festival since the 7.0-magnitude earthquake occurred in Jiuzhaigou County on August 8, 2017.

The Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province, where Jiuzhaigou Valley is located, is rich in ice and snow resources and has well-known winter skiing and ice climbing scenic spots such as Mount Siguniang, Dagu Glacier, and Sanao Snow Mountain. Data released by the Sichuan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism shows that in the five days before the Spring Festival holiday, the ticket revenue and reception of Aba scenic spots increased by 111.54% and 79.64% year-on-year respectively.
