Syntax
AREAS(reference)
Reference is a reference to a certain cell or range of cells. It can also refer to multiple ranges.
If several references need to be specified as one parameter, they mustbe enclosed in parentheses to avoidWPS The table uses commas as separators between parameters.
Chinese meaning of AREAS It is a "region", and the main function of its function is to count the number of referenced cells or cell ranges.
When using this function, please note that when referencing multiple cell ranges, you must add parentheses before and after the parameters of the function formula.
The interesting thing about this function is that it can use different reference symbols to express different meanings.
There are three situations in total.
1. Use colons to refer to consecutive cells.
■ Select cell C2, click Insert Function, find and select the AREAS function in the search box, and click OK.
A dialog box will pop up with one parameter.
Reference area, that is, the cell or range of cells we want to calculate.
Select A7 to A9 and click OK. You can see that the result is 1, which means a continuous cell range is referenced.
2. Use commas to indicate cells that refer to multiple discontinuous areas.
■ We enter the formula =AREAS((A7:A9,A11,A15:A17)) in cell C3
As you can see, discontinuous cell areas are separated by commas, representing different areas.
Press Enter to confirm. The displayed result is 3, which means a total of 3 areas are referenced here.
3. Use spaces to indicate that the references contain common cells.
■ Select cell C4 and enter the formula =AREAS((A7:A9 A7))
This formula indicates the calculation of the number of common cell ranges contained in the reference.
Here A7 is included in the area from A7 to A9 we referenced, so the result is 1.
It should be noted that if commas are used to separate the fields, the return result will be 2.
