CAFA Chinese Typeface Design Class Exhibition
How to grow a real contemporaryness from the land of East Asian scripts to replace a modernity transplanted from Latin script designs? How to use in-depth practice to go beyond the historical limitations of the research field since modern times, and return to the origin of Chinese characters, so as to create an original Chinese typography system?
This is an 8-year sophomore course at the School of Design of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. The goal is to explore how to establish a real, concise and radical path to deepen the core pattern language of Chinese character design. Chinese, which is different from the logic of Western letters, is not only the object of design, but also the source of unique oriental creative paradigms and design methods. The course sinks into those classic masterpieces together with heart and hand, between "infinite writing" and "infinite composition", between classic context and personal talent, internalizes text design into everyone's life practice, in order to obtain a This is a design experience of what Ouyang Xun called "mind and eye". This year's course was also guided by teacher Yan Yongliang from Cang'er Font Bank. By returning to an ancient and radical practice path, young learners return to the origin of Chinese writing and technical reproduction, and directly explore the authentic, effective and vivid design methods of Chinese character design. In recent years, this exploration has also attracted the attention of the world's academic circles due to the common awakening of Asian typography design.
"The Way of Chinese Characters" is a very, very small sharing activity. It is a self-organized activity initiated by design learners, which is suddenly decided to arrange. The four young people worked hard to plan, carried out a lot of preparatory work, and invited three professional designers to call together. Like a surprise attack, like a flash mob, like a party, and here they come.
