Industry master hand in hand
The old master of Chinese font design——Mr. Yuan Weimin, will continue to sit in our Chinese TypeSchool. Mr. Yuan is a witness and inheritor of the history of Chinese font design. He served as the director of the font design office of Shanghai Printing Technology Research Institute for many years before retiring. He has more than 40 years of experience in Chinese font design. From the handwritten design in the era of metal movable type to today's digital design, Mr. Yuan has always maintained his passion for Chinese font design.
Ms. Yuan Weimin participated in many font design projects in Shanghai Institute of Printing Technology, such as Song Yi, Hei Yi, etc.

3type co-founder checks the whole process
Li Zhiqian, the co-founder of 3type, is very young, but he is always called "Old Li". The two small books in our TypeKit - "A Little Introduction to Chinese Font Design" and "Little Knowledge of Chinese Font Design" were written and designed by him, and he poured his years of experience in font design research.
Lao Li is a multi-field designer and practitioner with typography as the origin, and also the initiator and executor of the "Shanghai Movable Type" project. He and his friends interviewed more than 60 big names from all walks of life—old, middle-aged and young generations of typeface designers, typecasters, technicians, family descendants of Shanghai typecasting enterprises during the Republic of China, font company operators, typeface researchers, etc. And so on, not only the history of Chinese font design is very precious, but also in the process of visits, research and practice, I also have a lot of my own experience and understanding of the methods of Chinese font design. In this course, Mr. Li will attend the whole course. In addition to cooperating with Mr. Yuan to tell everyone about the history of Chinese font design, he will also give a lecture "Parametric Typeface Design" to share his insights on Chinese font design.

One-to-one guidance from senior font designers in Hong Kong
In addition to Mr. Yuan, we also specially invited Sammy Or, a senior font designer in Hong Kong. Mr. Ke’s most well-known font design is the MTR Song in the Hong Kong subway, which is still in use today and has become an important part of Hong Kong’s urban font landscape.

We are familiar with Mona Black, Mona Song, Huakang Lisong, Huakang Lihei, etc., all show Mr. Ke's solid Chinese font design level. After setting up his own independent studio, he led the design of Xinhei, which also attracted widespread attention.

Ms. Ke is serious about writing and preparing lessons very seriously. This time, he will integrate his thoughts on the shape structure of Chinese characters and some modern technological glyph patterns into the lecture "Graphic Characters vs. Chinese Characters". Let us look forward to it He is full of dry goods to share!
Sharing by local designers in Shenzhen
In addition to professional font designers, we also invited two good friends who are local graphic designers in Shenzhen. After all, there must be a small number of people who can really engage in the profession of font designers. Liao Bofeng and Liang Jia, who like searching for characters, will share their observations of urban fonts with you. At the same time, we will also learn how they lead projects with text design in their daily graphic design work.
Liao Bofeng is a graphic designer active in Shenzhen. He founded LiaoDesign in early 2016 and served as the creative director. He is also a member of Shenzhen Graphic Design Association (SGDA) and a teacher of Beijing Normal University (Zhuhai Campus).
Most of Liao's personal works are done by hand, hoping to bring fresh, vigorous and straight-line touches from vision to soul. This time Shenzhen TypeSchool will give us a lecture on the investigation of fonts in urban villages——
Investigation on "No Parking" in Baishilong Village. Baishilong Village is an urban village with a long history in Shenzhen. Although it is located outside the customs, it has attracted a large number of migrant workers to live here due to the advantages of transportation and low rent. Liao Bofeng began to collect various "No Parking" warning signs in the village in 2016. Classifying and studying them, the diversity, randomness, and original ecology presented by them are fascinating.

Liang Jia once launched an activity called "Word Parade". As a designer, he often found many attractive things around him from street auctions in Hong Kong, Macau, and Shenzhen, and used them as his own. A source of nourishment and inspiration for design. In this lecture, he will bring us his thoughts on tradition and font design that he felt when he was "hunting" street characters all the year round.
