Checks if there is a cell reference containing a formula and returns TRUE or FALSE.
Grammar
ISFORMULA(reference)
ISFORMULA function syntax has the following parameters.
▪Quote Required. Reference is a reference to the cell to be tested. The reference can be a cell reference or a formula or name that refers to the cell.
Remarks
If the reference is not a valid data type, such as the reference's defined name, ISFORMULA will return the #VALUE! error value.
Example
Formula | Description | Results |
=TODAY() | Returns TRUE because =TODAY() is a formula. | TRUE |
7 | Returns FALSE because 7 is a number and not a formula. | FALSE |
Hello, world! | Returns FALSE because "Hello, world!" is text and not a formula. | FALSE |
=3/0 | Returns TRUE because although dividing by 0 caused an error, the cell does contain a formula. | TRUE |
