Graduation defense is a one-to-many PK game. You need to show a strong aura alone on the stage and withstand the pressure of at least 5 judges from the defense committee.

Here are 8 details that may help you achieve a decent defense:

1. Formal defense wears formal attire

Wearing formal clothes at least shows that you attach great importance to this defense and leave a good first impression on the judges. Moreover, after putting on formal clothes, a kind of self-confidence will arise spontaneously from the bottom of my heart, forming an invisible aura to help you resist part of the pressure.

2. Check the materials again before departure

Isn't participating in the defense just to let the judges sign your defense materials and give you a high score? This is the original purpose and the final purpose. Therefore, I would rather bring more materials than less, and I must bring them all. Especially the defense PPT, U disk and defense form. In addition, remember to bring extra pens and white paper for emergencies. If you expect to have a long wait for your defense, bring a few bars of chocolate to keep you energized.

3. Remember the time for the defense, it is best to arrive early

One is to be familiar with the venue. People will be relatively timid in unfamiliar places, but after getting familiar with it, it will become a home game, and the heart will be more calm; In addition, if you arrive at the venue earlier, if you find that there is a problem with your PPT, you will still have time to remedy it.

4. Test computer or PPT in advance

After arriving at the venue, before the defense committee members arrive, take the time to test the computer. If you plan to use your own laptop, test that the computer is properly connected to the projector. If you are using the computer at the defense site, open the PPT to confirm whether the version is compatible and there are no garbled characters. To be on the safe side, it is recommended to save a compatible version in a USB flash drive before going to the defense site, and save a PDF version just in case. Otherwise, once you find that your PPT cannot be opened, and there is no alternative, it may be too late to run back or ask someone next to you to borrow a computer, and it will be extremely annoying to capsize in a small river ditch.

5. The first two minutes on stage are the most important

When you speak the first few sentences after you come on stage, it is generally the most nervous time, but it often happens to be the time when the judges examine you. They will give you a mental impression in the first two minutes. So no matter how nervous you are when you come on stage, take a deep breath, look at them gently, and then smile slightly. The opening remarks and the first few pages of the report must be memorized backwards. A calm opening allows you to form a strong enough aura to overwhelm the judges and give you a good start. And a good start often means far more than half of the success in the defense. Because they were tired after listening to so many defenses, they might have started to lose their minds after a while.

6. Grasp the scale of PPT and speech

PPT should focus on pictures as much as possible, and write some brief texts to remind yourself at key points, but don't appear large stacked texts. Don't use a large whiteboard for shading, let alone be too fancy. Generally, the logo + light yellow of your school or unit is used as the background.

7. Never rush to talk during the questioning session

During the questioning session, the most common mistake is to hear the judges ask questions and feel that you know the answer, so you can't wait to answer immediately, even if they haven't finished asking their questions. Or think that the judge's question is wrong, and want to correct the judge's mistake immediately. In fact, you should be patient and listen to them finish their questions, and wait until they stop talking before answering questions. Also, don't argue with the judges, they have your scores in their hands.

8. Three thanks are indispensable

First, thank the judges before you start speaking on the ppt. They took time out of their busy schedules to participate in your defense. No one's time is lost from the sky. Second, you should thank the judges after you finish the ppt. They sit here and listen to you rambling for a long time, and no one owes anyone. Third, thank your mentor or master. If they usually treat you well, you will naturally show a sincere expression; if they usually treat you badly, you will pretend to show a sincere expression.
