There are three directions:
  1. "The world is chasing me..." 2022 is an outstanding Ukrainian philosopher, occultist, theologian, 300th birthday of poet and teacher Gregory Skovoroda.

  2. "Nosce te ipsum". Known Latin expressions used in philosophy, art, science, etc.

  3. "Between Image and Text: Modern Significance". Reveal current issues, trends, future visions, and more.

Competition
  • Participating students can be students of institutions of higher learning (student category), or students of private graphic design colleges, font courses, etc. (private category).
  • The competition is divided into three stages:
  • Eligibility (if you want to participate in the competition of students at institutions of higher education);

  • Intermediate (entry of works, registration of participants, selection of works by the competition organizing committee, formation of a list of participants);

  • Final (jury work, announcement of result).


  • Cyrillic, Perform in Latin or other system of the entrant's choice of letter, unless nominated for emphasis in special cases (except for the second direction of the subject, where the language of choice is Latin).
  • Each entrant is entitled to submit up to 3 entries per nomination to be submitted with the competition application. The competition application form is a Google form filled in English, and the competition works are downloaded according to the technical requirements (each work not exceeding 5mb can be used as a separate application)*. Author names are not allowed while working! Numeric file names: Surname_Nomination (eg Teslenko_A, Teslenko_E). If several work, add the numbers (Teslenko_A-1, Teslenko_Н-2). Documents that do not technically correspond to the announced nominations will not be considered.
  • Entries admitted to the competition must have a high standard of presentation, relevant nominations, and must adhere to a code of ethics. General criteria for selection of works: originality of creativity; ideological component; expressiveness of creation; aesthetic appeal; technical execution.
  • The winners of each nomination will receive degrees I-III, as well as honorary degrees from members of the international jury. All participants receive certificates. Winners can also receive the honor of the competition partner, and rewards from the organizing committee and competition partners. Participation in the competition is free.
  • Participants warrant authorship of their work. Plagiarism is unacceptable.
* The processing of personal data is carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Ukrainian Law on the Protection of Personal Data. The competition organizing committee may use the entries to promote the competition while retaining the copyright of the entries.


Requirements for Nomination
A. Calligraphy
Components required for the project: Phrase, Text.
Technique: Calligraphic tools and range of color schemes are chosen by the participant.
Specifications: One copy of the electronic version of the original work. The file format is vertical or horizontal, 300×400 mm, JPG, 200dpi, RGB, 1754×2480 pixels.


B, print writing
The required components of the project: symbols, letters, words, phrases ( for the second direction of the subject—one phrase only).
Technique (final work): The image is black and white.
Specifications: horizontal or vertical format, 400×300 mm, JPG, 200dpi, grayscale, 1754×2480 pixels.


C, Artistic Alphabet
Writing system: Participant's choice.
Required components of the item: Alphabet capital letters. Numbers and minimal punctuation are welcome.
Readability: Low.
Purpose: Use discrete letters to form words and short titles.
Techniques and materials chosen by the participants (gouache, plasticine, cardboard, improvised materials, computers, etc.). The letters are handmade: they are drawn, cut out, made of something, etc. Send a digital version of the original work to the competition (letters translated into digital files by scanning, photography, etc., and written in a graphics program).
Typesetting: Typesetting is free, but in alphabetical order. The general themes of an epistle are not limited to competition, they can be as self-sufficient as an epistle: plot, theme, anthropomorphism, and so on. The color scheme chosen by the participant.
Specifications: The format is vertical, 300×400 mm, JPG, 200dpi, RGB, 1754×2480 pixels.


D. Decorative font
Writing system: to be chosen by the participant.
Components required for the project: letters (uppercase or lowercase only), numbers, basic punctuation.
Readability: Average.
Purpose: To write phrases.
Execution skills: Graphics programs (Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, etc.). Can be executed in a font editor.
Introduction: The composition is free on a sheet of paper, preserving the order of the letters of the alphabet. The color scheme chosen by the participant.
Specifications: vertical format, size 600×900 mm, JPG, 200dpi, RGB, 3150×4724 pixels.


E. Display font
Writing system: to be chosen by the participants. The second writing system is welcome.
Components required for the project: letters (uppercase and lowercase), numbers, and a full character set that provides numeric input.
Readability: Medium, High.
Uses: for titles, small blocks of text.
Execution Technology: Exclusive font editors (Fontlab, Fontforge, Glyphs, etc.). This font was developed in the Unicode system.
Presentation: Composition is free, but it is necessary to present a complete set of characters on a light background. Fonts must have names. Among other visual modules, the possibility of using a font (words, sentences and/or texts related to the theme of the competition), as well as a color scheme, of the competitor's choice is demonstrated.
Specifications: vertical format, size 600×900 mm, JPG, 200dpi, RGB, 3150×4724 pixels.


F, text font
Writing system: two chosen by the participant (e.g. Cyrillic + Latin; Latin + Hieroglyphs; Latin + Sanskrit and other writing systems).
Item Required Components: A complete set of characters to provide typing (uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, punctuation, symbols, ligatures, etc.). For non-alphabetic systems, capacities are allowed: up to 80 characters for compound writing and up to 200 characters for ideograms. Weight: Normal
Readability: High.
Purpose: Used for number sets for large text blocks.
Execution Technology: Exclusive font editors (Fontlab, Fontforge, Glyphs, etc.). This font was developed in the Unicode system.
Form of expression: The font is presented in a single form, with a basic size of 600×900 mm, which can be divided into horizontal blocks with a height of 300mm (such as three blocks of 600×300, or One block 600×300 + 600×600). Regular entries must have a white background, large font, and 12, 14, and 16 pages of text. Other blocks show the possibilities of using the font in different pts (font name, words, sentences, other fonts, etc.), and the color scheme chosen by the participants. If necessary, this information can be displayed by increasing the height of the sheet in steps of 300mm.
Specifications: vertical format, size 600×900/1200…mm, JPG, 200dpi, RGB, 3150×4724 pixels.


G, Font Poster
Typography that visually interprets the competition theme. The color scheme chosen by the participant.
Specifications: vertical format, size 600×900 mm, JPG, 200dpi, RGB, 3150×4724 pixels.



Compete
Deadline: April 21, 2022

Call for works, finalists: April 22-30.
The work of the Appeal Committee: May 2-4 (from the date when the results of the mid-term competition are announced to the start of the final judge).


International jury work: May 5th to 17th.
Results will be announced by the end of May 2021.
The organizing committee has the right to adjust the dates of the middle and final stages of the competition.
