I heard that those who seek the growth of trees must strengthen their roots; those who wish to flow far away must dredge up their springs; those who long for the security of their country must accumulate their virtues and righteousness. The source is not deep, but the stream is far away; the roots are not solid, but the tree is long; the virtue is not deep, but the principles of the country are thought of. Although the minister is a fool, he knows that it is impossible, but how much worse is he who is wise and wise? The ruler of human beings should be the most important of the divine weapons, and he should be as large as possible in his domain. He will respect the heights of the heavens, and he will never be able to rest without borders. Don't think about living in peace and be prepared for danger, abstain from extravagance and be frugal, your virtue is not strong enough, and your passion is too strong to overcome your desires. When a husband is worried, he will treat his subordinates wholeheartedly; when he has achieved his ambition, he will indulge himself and be proud of things. If you are sincere, Hu Yue will become one, and if you are arrogant, your flesh and blood will be the road. Although Dong Zhi punished him severely and used his power and anger, he still refused to be spared without any benevolence, and he was courteous but not convinced. Resentment is not big, but people should be feared; when a boat capsizes, it is better to be cautious; when a car is running, the rope is rotten, it can be careless! (Hu Yue, one work: Wu Yue)
As a gentleman, if you can sincerely see what you want, then think about it and know enough to discipline yourself; when you are about to do something, think about knowing it to calm others; when thinking about high dangers, think about being humble and rush to shepherd yourself; if you are afraid of overflowing, When you think about rivers and seas and hundreds of rivers, when you are happy and wandering, you think about the three drives to overcome them; when you are worried about laziness, you think about starting carefully and respecting the end; when you are worried about obstruction, you think about being humble and accepting the things below; when you want to slander evil, you think about rectifying your body and dethroning evil; when you think about being kind, you think about kindness. If there is no reason to be happy, you will be rewarded wrongly; if you are punished, you will be punished indiscriminately if there is no reason to be angry. To sum up these ten thoughts, promote the nine virtues, let them do what they can, choose the good and follow it, then the wise will do their best, the brave will do their best, the benevolent will spread their benefits, and the believers will be loyal to them. Civil and military affairs are strenuous, and you have nothing to do. You can enjoy the pleasure of traveling in Henan, support the life of pines and trees, and sing the harp and bow the bow. It goes without saying. Why bother to think hard, perform duties on behalf of others, and use smart eyes and ears? It is a waste of the road of doing nothing!
