Brief comment: I saw an introduction to Fira Code before. So today I have sorted out some popular and free fonts, each one takes what it needs.
The screenshots below are all the same code snippets, the editor is VSCode. Use the same settings:
'editor.fontSize': 14
▎1. Hack
Hack is based on Bitstream Vera and the open source fonts of the DejaVu project, 0O
and 1lI
are legible and easy to read.
▎2. DejaVu Sans Mono
DejaVu is also an excellent freely licensed font from Bitstream Vera. Can clearly distinguish between 0O
and 1lI
. 0
Compared with Hack, the internal dots are a bit small, but overall this font still feels comfortable.
▎3. Monaco
It was the default font before OS X. It has a special style and an apple flavor.
▎4. Source Code Pro
Source Code Pro was designed by Adobe. Overall, this font looks sharper than others.
▎5. Menlo
Menlo was previously the default font in Xcode, a derivative of DejaVu Sans Mono. In macOS High Sierra, the default font has been changed to San Francisco Mono
▎6. Consolas
Consolas is the default font for Microsoft Visual Studio and ships with Windows.
▎7. Space Mono
An excellent monospace font designed by Colophon Foundry.
▎8. Anonymous Pro
This font gives people the feeling of a classical typewriter.
▎9. IBM 3270
IBM 3270 is based on the font used in the IBM 3270 terminal manufactured by IBM in 1971, which has a kind of retro programming smell.
▎10. Droid Sans Mono
This is a font designed for Android, very beautiful, but 0
and O
are not distinguished.
